TIANSLATION NO. 8.
C
January 7th, 1928.

sir,
I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of
Your Excelleney's note of January 6th last, in which you
state that you desire to learn the views of the Imperial
Government in regard to the proposal of the British
Commander-in-Chief on the China Station to send Captain
Maxwell-Scott, commanding K.M.8. "Bruce", together with
two destroyers to Makau in order to discuss the question
of a joint patrol of Bias Bay with the Commander-in-Chief
there.
In reply I have the honour to state that I
referred the matter to the Ministry of Marine who are of
the opinion that it would be preferable to let the
Commander of H.I.J.M's "Uji", now stationed at Canton,
discuss the question with the British naval authorities
at Hongkong.
I avail, etc.
Giichi Tanaka,
Baron :
Minister for Foreign Affairs.
H.E.
Sir John Tilley,
British Ambassador,
Tokyo.
